Description:
No. of Pages=434 I have just finished reading this book and could hardly put it down. For a slow reader like me I finished this book in 5 days. The book is in small print and 428 pages short. It is termed as short, because I wanted to keep on reading it. The story tells you of life of Geishas of Japan. The story revolves around a young girl of 9 years whose mother is dying .they live in a small fishing village in Japan. Her father fearing the welfare of the girl sends her to live with a friend, who in turn sells her to a Geisha house. Over there she works as slave hoping to become a Geisha one day. The story takes you to teahouses, and Madams and the process of becoming a Geisha. This little girl goes through many ups and down and in the process the reader learns about the Geisha system. While reading this book you become a sympathizer of this little girl and always interesting to find out about what happens next. I have learned from this book that in Japan most people have a mistress and the wives accept it. There is even an official ceremony for a Geisha to become a mistress of a rich man.
