Description:
No. of Pages=601 This book was recommended by my sister. I am thankful to her forher suggestion. This is a very interesting story of life of the poor and struggling people in India. It is a very honest description of people living in the slums. The story revolves around two people who belong to a low cast( cobblers). The cast system was very prevelant in India in mid 40s. The story is set when India had just become independant. The cobblers decided to change the tradition and also to make both ends meet to become Tailors. The turn of events takes them to a very kind and independent minded Parsi lady. THe rest of the story revolves on a 'Perfect Balance' as the name of the book implies between This lady, two of these poor Tailors and a young and aspiring city boy who is a paying gust with this Parsi lady. I mas moved by the honest description of the lives of these people. Being born and brought up in India, I could relate to the lives of these people. At times it is vey touching. Rohatom Mitry has done an excellent job. I enjoyed the book. He gets four stars from me. It is a recommended reading and you keep wondering " How will this end" No peaking on the last chapter.
