Description:
No. of Pages=399 Another gem from Indu Sundaresan. She has become my favourite writer and i have bexome fer fan. I love her writing style. Just finished this book last evening padr midnight. Without giving away the end, I was so immersed in the last quarter of the book that I lost all track of time. To enjoy the last quarter of the book you have to read the first three quarters, which are equally absorbing and rivitting. Thit theme of the book is a love story of a price to the daughter of an IAS officer, set in the deserts of Rajasthan. Then comes a wounded American soldier, in search of his missing brother. The American falls in love with the young daughter of the IAS officer. The love story is beautifully described. The locations and the situations are so beautifully described that you feel, you are actually there. I am a lover of trains, and enjoyed auther's description of a train passing through the desert with cliti clack sound and then whistling on and off. She has added some humor to the story. For example, the IAS officer likes his tea nice freah and boiling hot. After a few sips the tea becomes too cold for his pallet. He orders tea to be warmed again and again. The staff got a solution and served his tea on a burning stove set nest to him, where he could rest it to stay warm between sips. I like my tea the same way, and thoroughly enjoyed the description.Indu the writer was born and brought up in India and then migrated to Seattle in USA. She still seemms to understand the indian customs and even the curse words. Being an Indian I can relate to the description of events and custome. I thorougly enjoyed the book. It is not a classic but an interesting reading. I can not help but have to give it **** Rating.
