Description:
This is by far the thickest book that I have ever read. This book is contained in 1474 pages. The very fact that I read it till page 1474 tells me the book keeps you absorbed and interested. It is a love story of a differnet kind set in the early 50s soon after India became independent of British empire. It is a tale of four families. The Mehras, The Kapoors, The Chatterjis and The Khans. There are many characters in the story and with lot of interaction among the families. In a novel of this magnitude (1474 pages) it could have become difficult to keep track of who is who and how are these people interlinked etc. To avoid this confusion, the author has done a very smart thing, In the beginning of the book it self, he has made family chart of all the four families . I had fun referring back and forth to the chart. To make things easy, I made a copy of the family charts and kept it handy for reference. I used the family chart as a book mark. An interesting book to read. I give it ***1/2 stars.
